DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

STORY


ZACK GODSHALL Director/Co-Writer
Born in Arkansas, raised in Louisiana, Zack Godshall currently lives and works in South Louisiana, where he makes fiction and documentary films. After earning an M.F.A. in film directing from UCLA, Zack immediately began work on the award-winning feature film "Low and Behold," an Official Selection of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Blending fiction and non-fiction in post-Katrina New Orleans, "Low and Behold" marks the beginning in a string of films that Zack plans to make in Louisiana, films that convey the spirit of the places and the people that have long inspired his imagination.



BARLOW JACOBS Co-Writer/Actor/Producer
Barlow Jacobs is a writer, actor and producer living in New Orleans, LA. His first success came with his role as a delusional petting zoo instructor in the short film Monkey Bars. David Gordon Green would later recommend Barlow for a lead role, opposite Michael Shannon, in Jeff Nichols, Shotgun Stories (2007 release). Barlow followed Shotgun Stories with a role in Zack Godshall’s award winning short film Absolution. Soon after Craig Zobel offered him a role in his new film, Great World Of Sound (Official Sundance Selection 2007).

Barlow has two scripts in pre production Git’s Til 11, (for Sugar Film Production’s) and Turkey In The Straw , co-written with Craig Zobel who will also direct (for Plum Pictures). Barlow is also developing a kids adventure movie with David Gordon Green. Low and Behold is Barlow’s most ambitious project to date, taking on the roles of Writer, Actor and Producer. His most recent role was in the Michael Almereyda film, New Orleans, Mon Amour (2008 release).



DARYN DELUCO Director of Photography
At twenty years of age Daryn found himself on the side streets of Santa Cruz, Bolivia with college roommate Rodrigo Bellott investigating the youth culture with camera in hand. After finishing college Daryn moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. It was after two years of working primarily on experimental and non-fiction film pieces that the Bolivian footage turned itself into a feature film titled Sexual Dependency. The cinematography went on to award Daryn with the prestigious FIPRESCA award at the Locarno Film Festival for its considered use of the split screen. He has since continued to place himself between fairly natural polarized forces. Daryn found himself back in Bolivia, after fleeing hurricane affected New Orleans, waking, sleeping, and running around the country with Evo Morales(current president of Bolivia) during the 2006 presidential campaigns on an untitled piece produced by Donald Ranvaud(City of God, Constant Gardener). Very soon after returning to New Orleans Daryn bought a Sony Z1U camcorder and began to point it at a variety of distressed social conditions through out the city. These projects range from a documentary on a creative collective of friends who live in the Ninth Ward to a group of elementary school kids in a newly renovated charter school living in FEMA trailers to the first narrative feature film to come out of New Orleans since the storm titled Low and Behold(Official Selection Sundance 2007).


MATT MUNN Production Designer
After finishing his Master's in Architecture from University of Tennessee, Matt Munn moved to New Orleans and began working with with a company doing house renovations. Not long thereafter he took his hard earned skills and applied them to the film world. He got his start as Art Director for the Indigent film, FLAKES shot in New Orleans (2007 release) directed by Michael Lehmann (Heathers). Shortly after that Matt moved to New York to work as the art director for the Comedy Central show Stella starring Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain. Most recently he worked as art director on the independent feature THE TEN (official selection 2007 Sundance Film Festival).


MARA LEPERE-SCHLOOP Art Director
Mara LePere-Schloop lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her background is in architecture and set design but she is making a permanent transition into the world of film. Mara wrote and directed Do It Yourself America, Conversations About Reality, a documentary about the American perspective of Architecture and was the Production Designer for Michael Almereyda’s film, New Orleans, Mon Amour (2008 release). She recently finished working as Production Designer for the pilot episode of Bourbon Street (Production Number One, LLC) a television series currently in post production. Presently Mara is doing production design for a short film by John Magary called The Second Line.


TRAVIS SITTARD Editor
Travis is one of the best and brightest up-coming editor’s in LA. After working at about every crew position possible on a film set from Production Assistant to Gaffer, Travis decided that he wanted to make the switch to Editor. He was an assistant editor on NYPD Blues. Before editing Low And Behold, he was assistant editor on David Gordon Green’s new film Snow Angles (Official Sundance Selection 2007).


COLBY JOHNSON Producer
Colby Johnson is a producer and director in New Orleans. A painter trained at the New York Studio School, he found himself working in the film industry in New Orleans as a storyboard artist.

He was executive producer for the film “Tony Bravo: Scenes from a Forgotten Cinema,” a collaboration with the UNO Drama and Education Department and New Orleans director Francis James. Since then, Johnson has directed several shorts before signing on to help produce Low and Behold. He is currently working with Jackie Morgan to produce Morgan’s 2gether 4ever.



SARAH HENDLER
Producer
Sarah Hendler is an independent film and television producer. She worked in production on Craig Zobel’s film, Great World Of Sound (Official Sundance Selection 2007) and was a field producer/location manager on Angelina Jolie’s soon-to-be released documentary, A MOMENT IN THE WORLD. Additionally, Hendler managed all phases of production on Brad Silberling’s LEMONY SNICKET: A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS (Paramount Pictures), as well as Jake Kasdan’s film, ORANGE COUNTY.

Sarah was a coordinator in the Guest Services Department at the Sundance Film Festival for several years, working in both the panels department and in Premieres. During a tenure in New York City, Sarah worked at Spanky Pictures with Joel Stillerman, producer and Co-President, on BLOW and the WB television pilot, GOING TO CALIFORNIA. She also worked with October Films, Tribeca Productions, The Shooting Gallery and New Line Cinema. Sarah majored in film and earned a Bachelor of Science in Visual and Media Arts from Emerson College in Boston, MA. She currently resides in Los Angeles.



JARED MOSHÉ Executive Producer
Jared Moshé is a NY based producer. His credits include , Independent Spirit Award nominee KURT COBAIN ABOUT A SON (2006 Toronto Film Festival), DESTRICTED (2006 Sundance Film Festival, 2006 Cannes Critics Week), and BEAUTIFUL LOSERS (2008 SXSW Film Festival, 2008 Locarno Film Festival), which was released through an innovative distribution deal he structured with Nike.  He is currently in post-production on SILVER TONGUES and the documentary feature KING OF THE B’S: THE INDEPENDENT LIFE OF ROGER CORMAN. Jared is a graduate of Amherst College.


ALFREDO NOGUERIAComposer
Alfredo has been a part of the New Orleans music scene sincehe first began playing in bands in 1995. In Febuary of 2000, he and four friends started a musical collective named Drop D; the members included Turk Dietrich of the group Belong (Carpark Records), JoshuaEustis and Charles Cooper of Telefon Tel Aviv (Hefty Records), and himself. The group had their first job in 2001 when their piece "Dirgelike and Threatening" was used in the opening credits for a film,written by James Hughes and directed by Kyle Cooper (Imaginary Forces),called New Port South (Miramax Films). Nogueira's solo project, Endian, has been an ongoing endeavor since then. His first record, Stella Australis (unreleased), was completed in New Orleans just a few months before Hurricane Katrina.

After the hurricane, Nogueira relocated to Chicago to live with Charles Cooper and built a sizable home studio along with Cooper and partner Joshua Eustis. Since then, Nogueira has been taking lessons from pedal steel master Ken Champion, recorded on six different records, and has performed alongside Joseph Costa (Hefty Records), Marc Hellner (Peacefrog, Aesthetics), Brian Foote (Audraglint, Kranky), and The Race (Flameshovel records). Currently, Nogueira is preparing to record his second full length record for Endian, and will continue to perform with his friends in The Race.


ROBB TURNER
Second Unit Photography & Gaffer
Southern California native Robb Turner is an independent filmmaker now based out of New Orleans. Since having studied filmmaking and photography at Temple University in Philadelphia, he has shot numerous short films of his own, as well as many feature films at just about every crew position. This year he has started his own production company, Green Fairy Pictures and plans to shoot his first feature film, CHERI & COBB, in the next year. JAMIE RUSH 2nd Assistant Director
While studying at the University of Central Arkansas, Jamie worked at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute, Co Producing/Directing the “What’s Up Docs?” children’s film festival. She also worked as a Production Assistant on Shotgun Stories (2007 Berlin Film Festival). On this project, she met Barlow Jacobs with whom she stayed in contact. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Filmmaking, Barlow invited her to work as 2nd Assistant Director on a film to be shot in Katrina-stricken New Orleans entitled Low and Behold (2007 Sundance Film Festival). From that job, Jamie traveled to Eureka Springs, Arkansas to 2nd 2nd Assistant Direct on War Eagle, starring Brian Dennehy and Mare Winningham. Once wrapped, she made her way to New York where she worked as the First Team Production Assistant on The Visitor, starring Richard Jenkins and Hiam Abbass. She also worked some hours on the film I Am Legend, starring Will Smith, as a Production Assistant on the Action Unit. While at home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jamie edits documentary pieces for Sagebrush Productions, Inc.
